Townhome Model by Ford Custom Homeswas assigned to photograph this new townhome model by Ford Custom Homes. This time of year, outdoor design clients are frantically putting together their portfolios for the spring shows and builders are putting the finishing touches on their models. The cool thing is I get to photograph a lot of them! This townhome is beautiful with the architecture created by Ford custom homes and the design created by Flow Micklovich of Bella Vita interiors.
The New Profoto D2 Lights
This year is shaping up to be the busiest year for architecture and interior photography. More assignments are coming in for larger commercial structures. So what’s that have to do with this townhome? Well, larger architecture presents more lighting control challenges. So I negotiated with my accountant (my wife) for the go-ahead to purchase some additional gear. Not just any gear, but 2 Profoto D2 1000 watt second monolights. Woo Hoo!! Man, talk about excitement!
Profoto lights are amazing. I purchased a set of B1s a couple of years ago. It was a huge jump from small speedlights. FYI: speedlights are the flashes used by wedding photographers. Each B1 monolight has the power of 10 speedlights. I have 2. So I went from using six speedlights to having the power of twenty six, and I thought that to be amazing. So if you can imagine, just one D2 light puts out the power of up to 20 speedlights. I have two! So now in total, I have the power of sixty six speedlights! Don’t let anyone kid you. More in this case is better.
Testing the D2s on the townhome photoshoot
My wife always tells me “Don’t ramble so much on the technical stuff! All that people really care about our nice pictures.” Man, I think technical stuff is so cool! But yes, I understand. So I digress a wee bit. If you’re a potential client, let me just say that better light control equals better pictures. How’d I do honey?
A great client
Keli Ford was nice enough to come out to the photo shoot and help out with overall composition and to be an extra pair of eyes. Keli mentioned that more folks are moving to townhomes because of the convenience. Lawn and maintenance are negligible. Yet there’s still plenty of interior space to relax and entertain.
Another successful photo shoot is in the books. Next week we go to Westhaven to photograph Ford’s new model. Stay tuned for photography!
